Proper use of NotifyMail requires that you meet the Server Requirements listed below and either the Macintosh Requirements or Windows Requirements. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Note: NotifyMail requires a dedicated connection to the internet or an intranet (Dialup, i.e. modem connections are not supported).

Server Requirements

In order to function properly, your mail server must support NotifyMail. Before installing NotifyMail, please check the following list to verify that your server is listed. If you have a question about what kind of server you are using, please contact the postmaster of your domain.

• AppleShare IP 6.x running on a Macintosh
• Macintosh OS X Server running on a Macintosh
• Stalker Software's Stalker Internet Mail Server running on a Macintosh
• CommuniGate Pro by Stalker Software
• Software.Com's Post.Office (2.0 or higher)
• sendmail
• qmail
• QuickMail Pro Server running on a Macintosh
• Seattle Lab's SLMail running on Windows 95/NT
• Internet Shopper's NTMail

 

Note: NotifyMail will NOT work with major Internet service providers such as AT&T Worldnet, Pacific Bell Internet Services, Compuserve, America Online, Netcom, Mindspring, etc. If you are unsure if NotifyMail will work for you, please contact the postmaster for your domain.

Note: NotifyMail does NOT work with the Microsoft Exchange Server; Microsoft uses very proprietary mechanisms on their server. In addition, if you use an Exchange Server with Microsoft Outlook clients, NotifyMail is not necessary as Outlook maintains a constant (i.e. wasteful) connection to the server.

Note: NotifyMail may work with other mail servers. If you are a system administrator and are using a server that is not listed, please contact our technical support department.

Macintosh Requirements

• System 8.1, or higher (including Mac OS X)
• CarbonLib 1.0.4 or higher (It can be downloaded from Apple for free)
• TCP/IP already configured for your connection
• Dedicated connection to the internet or an intranet (Dialup connections are not supported)
• One of the following email packages is optional:
  • Eudora 1.4 or higher
  • Microsoft Outlook Express 4.0 or higher
  • Microsoft Entourage
  • Bare Bone's Mailsmith
  • Mulberry
  • Other email client support available on request

Windows Requirements

• Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, or 95/98/ME
• TCP/IP already configured for your connection
• Dedicated connection to the internet or an intranet (Dialup connections are not supported)
• One of the following email packages is optional
  • Eudora 1.5.4/2.2 or higher
  • Pegasus Mail
  • QuickMail Pro or Express
  • Microsoft Outlook 98 (you must choose the Corporate or Workgroup Installation)
  • MAPI compliant mail package (please contact the vendor to see if they support MAPI)
